What changed

Anderson Trucking Service announced that its regional company van-driver base rate increased from 60 to 70 cents per mile effective September 7. The company says eligible rates can reach 72 cents per mile based on years of service.

ATS says the increase applies to both loaded and empty miles and covers about 50 current regional company van drivers. The higher base rate also applies to new hires in that program.

Who is — and is not — covered

This is a completed pay change for ATS regional company van drivers. It is not a fleet-wide wage rule, a union contract or a government-required rate.

The announcement does not say the 70-cent rate automatically applies to ATS independent contractors, lease operators, owner-operators, flatbed drivers, heavy-haul drivers or every company-driver position. Applicants should verify the exact division, mileage definition, home-time terms and deductions in a written offer.

Why it matters to drivers

A 10-cent-per-mile increase equals 16.7% relative to the former 60-cent base rate. Because ATS says loaded and empty miles are included, the change may be more useful than a headline rate that excludes repositioning miles.

Actual weekly earnings still depend on dispatched miles, detention or stop pay, benefit costs, taxes and time at home. Drivers comparing jobs should evaluate the complete compensation package rather than one mileage number.
