Which trucks are covered
Daimler Truck North America reported a new safety recall for 2,404 certain 2020–2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X vehicles. NHTSA lists the campaign as 26V583 and DTNA identifies it as F1039.
The affected 4x2 trucks had previously been repaired under NHTSA campaigns 23V073 or 22V817. Those earlier campaigns addressed corrosion in front-axle brake modulator valves, but DTNA determined that the software remedy used on these trucks was incompatible with this configuration.
The safety risk and remedy
Corrosion may interfere with a front brake modulator valve and cause the truck to pull to one side when Electronic Stability Control or Roll Stability Control initiates braking. A sudden directional change can increase crash risk.
Dealers will replace the front brake modulator valves at no charge. Owner notices are expected to be mailed November 8, 2026, and trucks repaired under the earlier campaigns still need the new recall remedy if their VIN is included.
What drivers and fleets should do
Use NHTSA's VIN lookup or an authorized DTNA service channel to confirm whether a specific truck is included; model and year alone do not establish coverage. Reference NHTSA campaign 26V583 or DTNA recall F1039 when contacting a dealer.
The filing does not direct drivers to perform a brake-system repair themselves. Drivers should report warning lamps or unusual braking behavior under their carrier's maintenance and out-of-service procedures and follow manufacturer instructions for the affected vehicle.
