What the recall covers

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign 26V621 covers 265,512 ProMaster cargo vans. The total includes 44,391 model-year 2022–2026 Ram 1500 ProMasters, 147,204 model-year 2022–2026 Ram 2500 ProMasters, 72,043 model-year 2022–2026 Ram 3500 ProMasters and 1,874 model-year 2024–2026 Ram 3500 ProMaster EVs.

NHTSA received the manufacturer's Part 573 report on September 29, 2026. The agency's recall lookup began showing affected VINs on October 6. A model and year match does not by itself prove a particular van is included; owners and fleets should check each VIN.

Why the vans are being recalled

The filing says water can enter the electric power-steering wiring harness and damage electrical connections. If steering assist stops, the driver may need substantially more effort to steer, especially at low speeds, increasing crash risk.

The recall concerns loss of power assistance, not a claim that every covered van has already failed. Drivers should not wait for unusually heavy steering before checking VIN status and arranging the required inspection.

Remedy and owner notices

Dealers will inspect the wiring harness and replace it and the electric power-steering gear as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed November 17, 2026, followed by additional letters when the final remedy is available.

Fleets should identify potentially affected units by VIN, preserve recall and repair records, brief drivers on the symptom, and contact an authorized dealer for scheduling. A recall lookup is more reliable than assuming eligibility from a fleet list or vehicle appearance.
