What happened
CVSA conducted Brake Safety Week from August 23 through 29, with certified inspectors checking commercial-vehicle brake systems and components. The 2026 emphasis was brake drums and rotors.
The launch notice said vehicles with qualifying brake-related out-of-service conditions would be restricted from operation until corrected.
What inspectors checked
CVSA listed missing, loose, contaminated, cracked, or nonfunctioning parts; air leaks; over-stroked brakes; worn linings or pads; cracked drums or rotors; and inoperative tractor-protection systems among the inspection areas.
The list is a safety-enforcement overview, not a substitute for maintenance specifications or vehicle-specific repair procedures.
What it means for drivers
Drivers should perform required inspections, report defects, and leave brake measurement and repair to qualified personnel under the carrier's maintenance process.
The launch announcement did not include results. This article does not infer a defect rate or claim that every roadside inspection during that week had the same scope.
